We recieved our first time homebuyer's tax credit in the mail today, just six weeks after sending in our paperwork! I did more than a little happy dance over that one. Based on some of the stories we were hearing, we thought it might be a few months. Since it came earlier than we thought, we can break a little free from the spending freeze we had ourselves on and start working on the kitchen. The problem? I'm not quite sure what I want to do.

The kitchen needs a ton of work - more work than we're able to do at the moment. It's quite big, but has an awful layout. We've decided we're going to live with it for now and dream about a more layout friendly kitchen for a few years. What we do want is to get some paint and color in the room along with a little table and chairs for breakfast.

This is the best I can come up with for now, but I'm still a little unsure.

I know that I love the Urban Outfitters curtains, especially because they are perfect with my Autumn Harvest Pyrex that I want to be able to display. I bought a bunch of blue cork board squares on clearance at Office Max a few weeks ago, and they would play off the curtains well, too. I really want to paint the walls a buttery yellow, but Dan isn't a big fan. Maybe a earthy tan instead?

Sometimes it's hard to put off the big projects for when you can really do them right. Good for you for making the tough decision. I'm not feeling the buttery yellow with that flooring. Instead, I suggest a really, really light orange - basically white with a little warm orange in it. Maybe Benjamin Moore While Cloud (2159-70) or Cream (2159-60) or Apricot Ice (2015-70)?

Both of those colors are great! I wouldn't have thought of that, but I can definitely see it working. My kitchen plans change daily. It's hard to figure out what to do with a room you really don't like all that much...other than picture it completely renovated :)

I think your kitchen has fantastic potential. I love an "old house" kitchen and I love that the little details you've chosen will highlight that feel. Just lovely. Have you considered the black and white "stick on" linoleum floor tiles? I put them down in every one of my rental apartments and I loved the bright contrast and retro feel that they provided. Are the blue tiles in your mood board the stick on kind?

The blue tiles are actually blue cork boards I was going to put on the walls. I've seen the peel and stick tiles, but wasn't sure that they would hold up - it's great to hear that they do! I've always loved the idea of having a black and white tile floor, so maybe we should think that way. I've been looking at this kitchen for a while and thinking it makes for some good inspiration. http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/k9/kitchen-farmhouse-HTOURS0605-de.jpg
