...no, not Standards of Learning, but the real deal s-oh-el. Which is basically what the city court told us when we showed up at small claims court the day we were supposed to face Mr. No Show Sod. We found out he had not been served because the address he put on our invoice was not real. So, basically we spent an extra $65 to file the court case and there's nothing they can do about it. I guess we're going to chalk it up to life experience and get the sod installed in the spring, but it's still a bummer.
To add to the bummer pile is the fact that we're going to need a new roof. We thought we could squeak by for a few years with a couple patches, but Hurricane Irene proved us wrong. There's a few too many leaky spots at this point, so it's looking like the tax return is going directly back into the house...and not in the fun way.
We still have a cute puppy, though. She's the only new pretty thing around here for now.

Agh, not looking forward to that part of homeowning.
Ugh that sucks! Really makes you wonder about the kind of people out there doing business.
We are in the middle of replacing our roof and as much as I am sad to see our hard earned money go, I know come February I will be grateful we went ahead and did it because a leaky roof in the dead of winter (or any time of year) is no fun.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you guys from here on out!
Your pup is adorable, love her little ears! :)
I can't imagine you have any more yard up here than I do. Fall is the time to plant grass. Why don't you just put down some starter fertilizer and grass seed now. Sod costs more than grass seed and fertilizer so you could recoup some of what this idiot has stolen from you.
It's definitely been really frustrating, especially because we had so many great experiences with the people we've hired up to this point and this makes us lose some trust a bit.
We definitely considered seeding and actually tried a small patch last Fall. Unfortunately, our yard is so covered in weeds at this point, I think we're going to need complete tilling before we do anything...so we're still feeling things out!
What a nice surprise to find your blog. Seems we have a bit in common. Richmond is my home, love my babies too (Eddie and Emily...puppy/cat), 120 yr old farm house, and my hubbie works in Church Hill, Richmond City Firefighter. I spend my days working in our gardens, redoing and redoing the house.....and my love of all... creating & painting. Diaen

What a treat to find your blog! Love it!!! We share a few things in common...We have a 120 yr old farm house in New Kent (25 miles outside of Richmond). My husband works in your neck of the woods...Church Hill...Richmond City Fire Department. My dream was to be an art TEACHER...didn't happen. Now I am a retired banker, who spends her days, redoing & redoing this old house, sewing, repurposing, creating, and my love of all...painting. My favorite subjects are animals. I own a Papillon and a sweet kitty. If you have time...check out my blog, where I post about my life and favorite things.
